Lesson 13 · Improv moves · 6 min · Escalation
Yes, And: the rule that saves dead conversations
Accept the offer, then add one thing
The big ideaIn improv, everything your scene partner says is an “offer”. You accept it (yes) and add to it (and). Conversations die when you shut an offer down, or accept it and add nothing.
Watch the pro do it
Watch forEvery time one performer turns the prop into something, the other one accepts it instantly and builds on it. Nobody ever says “no, that's a hat”. Watch how a strange object becomes a whole world in seconds because nobody blocks.

More pros doing it
Three comics fully commit to a silly premise, and each one pushes the bit a bit further than the last. That's 'Yes, And' in the wild.
